The New York Police Department is about to embark on a pilot program where 1,000 patrol officers will be required to wear body cameras. The Policing Project at New York University is conducting a survey and public comment period for the policy, and we encourage you to participate in the survey. Please take a few minutes to take the survey and share your opinions about the use of body cameras.
The pilot program is a result of a lawsuit brought by the Center for Constitutional Rights against the city’s stop and frisk policy. It is one of many reforms mandated by the lawsuit. The use of body cameras by police raises many serious questions.
YES! Every police person should have a body camera. Something needs to try to keep them in check. Even tho videos DO get lost when they are needed to keep citizens out of prison… Maybe they will help at the times they do not go missing.
” The use of body cameras by police raises many serious questions.” Care to elaborate? It’d be helpful to know what these questions are before filling out a survey.
