About Alain Bourgeois
Alain Bourgeois served, in the 1980’s, as an Acting Justice of the New York State Supreme Court, assigned to a homicide trial part in New York City. In the ensuing years, while continuing his 40-year long career in the field of criminal law, he has devoted himself to photography, traveling the world as a documentarian of senescence, the effects of the passage of time upon urban environments. In this effort, he has repeatedly visited the city of Havana seeking to make and preserve a record of the unique and transitory beauty of a city in inexorable decay.
In mounting the current exhibition – all proceeds of which will solely benefit the Innocence Project – he brings together his commitments to the cause of criminal justice and the art of photography in an evocative display of what he describes as “the wonders of a dying city on the cusp of economic renewal.”
