Happy Thanksgiving from the Innocence Project

11.22.07

While Americans gather together with family and friends today, there are 16 people spending their first Thanksgivings finally free from the suffering of a wrongful conviction. These 16 people spent a combined total of 224 years behind bars for crimes they didn’t commit, and today they are thankful for their freedom, while remembering the Thanksgiving celebrations they missed in prison. Those are days they can never get back.

The Innocence Project Exoneree Fund helps exonerees rebuild their lives after release with emergency and transitional funds for housing, food and clothing. Many exonerees are thankful this season to our supporters for their generous donations to help begin the adjustment to life outside of prison.

When the next innocent person is released from prison after years of wrongful incarceration, he or she will need your help.
