From Cell Block to Voting Block: The Exonerated Advocate for Reform

People exonerated through DNA testing have a profound understanding of the criminal justice system’s shortcomings. They know how the system has failed and why it must be fixed. By the time they are finally freed, they lost years or decades – but they gained a resolve to reform the system responsible for their wrongful conviction.

In all 50 states, the Innocence Project works hand-in-hand with exonerees to pursue reforms that can prevent wrongful convictions. This article focuses on four of the many exonerated people who have worked with the Innocence Project and local advocates to advance reform in their states.
