Willingham was executed in 2004 for allegedly setting fire to his own home on Christmas Eve, 1991, killing his three young daughters. Evidence presented to Texas officials before Willingham’s execution showed that the arson investigation was based on flawed science, and the Innocence Project has asked the Texas forensic oversight panel to determine whether negligence or misconduct were factors in the investigation.
