Watch: Barry Scheck Discusses the Supreme Court’s DNA Ruling

On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that police may take DNA samples from people who have merely been arrested for a crime. The decision, which comes in Maryland v. King traces back to the collection of Alonzo Jay King Jr.’s DNA after his arrest on assault charges in 2009. King’s DNA profile matched evidence from a 2003 rape case, for he was subsequently convicted.
Innocence Project Co-Director Barry Scheck appeared on Monday’s episodes of NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams and MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes to discuss what the decision means for the criminal justice system and the privacy of all citizens.
