Houston police cease use of unreliable drug tests
The Houston Police Department announced it is abandoning the use of the controversial $2 drug tests which contributed to hundreds of wrongful drug convictions in recent years. ProPublica

The New York Times applauds new Texas law regulating jailhouse informant testimony 
The New York Times Editorial Board published a piece applauding Texas for passing a critical new law, which will help prevent innocent people from being wrongfully convicted. The New York Times

DNA excludes second suspect in Texas child murder
Police released Andre Jackson, the second suspect in the murder of an 11-year-old Texas boy, after DNA testing excluded him as a perpetrator. Police announced in May they were releasing the first suspect after a witness selected the wrong man from a live lineup. The Houston Press

Florida man exonerated of murder and released from death row
Ralph Wright Jr. was exonerated and released from Florida’s death row on Tuesday after a circuit court acquitted him of a 2007 double murder. Florida Politics
