The Senate Hears You

09.16.10

Thousands of advocates from around the country called the U.S. Senate yesterday to voice support for the creation of a national criminal justice commission to examine our system and recommend reforms. We heard from hundreds of Innocence Project supporters who reached their members’ offices, and many said they heard that the Senate was deluged with calls on this issue. Thanks to everyone who made the call.

If you didn’t have a chance to call,

please write to your Senators here and urge them to support this commission

, which could play an important role in examining the causes of wrongful conviction and recommending reform.

To keep this issue in the spotlight, Innocence Project Co-Director Barry Scheck sent a letter to each U.S. Senator in support of the bill. “We urge the Senate to prioritize and pass this legislation as soon as possible so that comprehensive review of the nation’s criminal justice system can begin,” Scheck wrote.
