“The Exonerated” Returns to New York for Limited Run with Audience Talk Backs

“The Exonerated,” a groundbreaking dramatization of the stories of six people sentenced to death and later freed amidst overwhelming evidence of their innocence returns to New York for a limited seven-week engagement at the Culture Project with preview performances beginning on September 15 and opening night on September 19.
Presented in special association with the Innocence Project and directed by Bob Balaban, the Culture Project  celebrates the 10th anniversary of its New York premiere of the hit play written by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen culled from interviews, letters, transcripts, case files and court records of individuals on death row.

Performances will feature Stockard Channing, Brian Dennehy and Brooke Shields among others. Exoneree Sunny Jacobs, whose story is one of the six featured, joins the cast for one week, September 25 – 30. Every Thursday night performance will be followed by a panel discussion and audience talkback led by innocence advocacy organizations including the Innocence Project (9/27, 10/11, 11/1), Reinvestigation Project (10/4), Exoneration Initiative (10/18) and Pace University Post-Conviction Project (10/25). Exoneree speakers will participate in talk backs on the evenings when the Innocence Project is featured.

The Culture Project is located in Manhattan at 45 Bleecker Street at Lafayette Street.
