The Texas Forensic Science Commission is meeting in Dallas today to examine the arson conviction of Cameron Todd Willingham, who was executed in 2004 despite the fact that critical testimony of a fire investigator in his case was based on bad forensic science. The group opened the session at 9:30 CST and, after approving the minutes of the last meeting, immediately entered a closed session to receive legal advice.

The commission drew criticism this week when it released a draft report in advance of the meeting finding no negligence or misconduct by arson investigators in the case. Innocence Project Co-Director

Barry Scheck called the draft report “troubling” and said “it ducks the important issues raised in our allegation to the Commission.”
