Illinois may be discussing ways of moving forward with a medical examiner system, Alabama is discussing moving backward to a coroner system.  Here is this week’s round up of forensic news:

A Minnesota man may

receive a new trial

based on the fact that the FBI agent testifying to bullet lead composition overstated his testimony.

An Alabama legislator

drafted a bill to replace the county medical examiner’s office

with an elected coroner’s office.

A physician running for coroner in Illinois

vows to eliminate the office he is running for

and to replace it with an appointed medical examiner to eliminate politics from interfering in death investigations.

On Wednesday the

Senate Commerce Committee met to discuss “The Science and Standards of Forensics.”

Speakers included Innocence Project Board Member Dr. Eric Lander, the President of the Broad Institute of Harvard University and MIT.
