Deception in Juvenile Interrogations in Indiana

State statute provides that a statement made by a juvenile during a custodial interrogation is inadmissible if the statement is made in response to a law enforcement officer or a school resource officer communicating false information regarding evidence, false statements regarding the penalty for the act in question, and/or unauthorized statements regarding potential leniency to the juvenile being interrogated. Effective: July 2023.
