Contact Congress to Support Federal Funding for Innocence Programs

Call your members of Congress now at 757-207-3390 and urge them to robustly fund and protect Federal innocence and forensic science programs in FY26 spending bills. These programs have played a vital role in identifying, remediating, and preventing wrongful convictions.

Currently, Congress is drafting its FY26 appropriations bills. In early July, the House Appropriations Committee will consider funding for the Department of Justice, including for innocence grant programs and funding for forensic science research at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

The Senate also is expected to consider its spending bill for these programs in July. By giving resources to investigate, test, and provide legal representation to address wrongful convictions and conduct forensic science research that helps to prevent them, these programs increase the accuracy and fairness of the criminal legal system, provide the strongest possible forensic science tools to all stakeholders, and generate greater public safety.

Call 757-207-3390 or use the form above to contact your representative and senators to support and protect funding for innocence and forensic science programs.
