7 Ways to Get Involved with the Innocence Project After Watching Netflix’s ‘The Innocence Files’

We have a lot of work ahead to free people who are still in prison — but we need your help.

After watching the nine-episode series The Innocence Files on Netflix, you got to know the stories of Kennedy Brewer, Levon Brooks, Keith Harward, Chester Hollman, Kenney Wyniemko, Alfred Dewayne Brown, Franky Carrillo and Thomas Haynesworth, and the systemic flaws that caused their wrongful incarceration. We have a lot of work ahead to free the countless others who are still behind bars and to prevent future injustices — but we need your help. Here is a list of ways you can advocate for the most at-risk, educate yourself on the issues surrounding wrongful conviction and spread community awareness, all while socially distancing. 

1. Throw a virtual watch party

You may not be able to host a typical viewing party right now, but you and your loved ones can still watch all of our recommended films, documentaries and mini-series together. 2. Run a Facebook fundraiser

Host your own fundraiser for the Innocence Project, whether it is for a birthday, an anniversary or just because. Create one here.

 

3. Shop

4. Read and learn

Check out our list of must-read books, articles and media to expand your knowledge about wrongful conviction. Dig into the list and share it with your friends here

 

5. Take action in your state

Learn about our most pressing policy issues and cases. Add your name here to get notified when we need you to call local officials. 

 

6. Get to know your local network organization

The Innocence Network is a group of independent organizations that exonerate and support the innocent, and redress the causes of wrongful conviction. Find your local organization here.

 

7. Spread the word

Are there any recourses that help the victims who are now out? Are there ways to not only donate to the innocence project but also to the individuals who need help no that they are out?
