Fernando Bermudez served more than 18 years in a New York prison for a murder he did not commit before he was exonerated in 2009. He first caught the attention of CNN iReporter and journalism student Marcus Harun during a college lecture series. Intrigued by Bermudez’ wrongful conviction, Harun followed up with him to learn more about his story and learn how prison changed him and how it led to him meeting and marrying his wife, Crystal.
Today, Bermudez continues to do public speaking and advocate for criminal justice reform.
