A document presented yesterday shows that a key witness lied at Kezer’s 1994 murder trial in exchange for leniency in his own case. Kezer was convicted of the 1992 murder of a female college student – a crime he says he didn’t commit – and sentenced to 60 years in prison.
Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter reopened the investigation in 2006, and testified yesterday that he has not found any evidence linking Kezer to the crime. DNA testing on evidence from the crime scene has excluded Kezer, and other witnesses testified yesterday that witness statements at Kezer’s trial were false.
