DNA Expert Says Florida Man Serving Life Could be Innocent
A Florida man who has been serving a life sentence since 1993 for kidnap and rape could be innocent, according to a DNA expert who testified Tuesday.
The Bradenton Herald reported that DNA tests by the Diagnostic Center of Fairfield, Ohio, on crime scene evidence did not match Derrick Williams, who was convicted of the 1992 crimes.
Williams’ attorneys at the Florida Innocence Project are now seeking a new trial and expect a ruling by Wednesday.
If granted a new trial, his attorneys believe prosecutors may not pursue the case.
