Author

John Grisham is a bestselling author, attorney, politician, and activist widely known for his legal thrillers. He has first-hand experience with the legal and legislative systems, previously practicing criminal law for about a decade, as well as serving in the House of Representatives in Mississippi.

For decades, John has used his platform as both a Board Member and an Innocence Ambassador to advocate alongside our clients —  writing critical op-eds, sharing their stories, and advocating for real criminal legal reform.

His non-fiction book The Innocent Man, which was published in 2006, tells the story of Innocence Project client Ron Williamson’s wrongful conviction and subsequent exoneration. In 2024, he published Framed, with Jim McCloskey, which chronicles 10 true stories of men and women who were wrongfully convicted. In 2025, he announced his plans to publish his newest book Shaken, chronicling the true story of Innocence Project client Robert Roberson.

“It is a real privilege to serve as a Board member and Ambassador for the Innocence Project, one of the leading litigation and advocacy organizations in the country. There are thousands of innocent people in prison. It is our responsibility to share their stories, advocate on their behalf, and fight to reform the unjust criminal legal system. ”
