Thomas Siller served 13 years in Ohio prisons for a murder that DNA evidence shows he didn’t commit.  Placed in the extremely difficult position of accepting a plea bargain to a larceny charge in return for his freedom or remaining in prison while he waited for a retrial in the case, Siller chose the plea bargain and was released from prison this past March, three years after the Innocence Project filed for his exoneration.

The Cleveland Scene this week has a moving profile of Siller’s life after prison and an in-depth look at the case.

Faulty evidence made Siller an unlikely murderer all along. At the heart of Siller’s case was the testimony of a single shady eyewitness and a forensics expert asleep on the job. But Cuyahoga County prosecutors haven’t so much changed their minds as thrown up their hands in light of the overwhelming evidence that runs contrary to their 14-year-old stance.
