Kayla Martin is a post-conviction litigation fellow at the Innocence Project.
Prior to joining the Innocence Project, Kayla served as a law clerk at MidPenn Legal Services, in the trial division of the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia and at the Law Offices of Peter Levin. She has also worked as an investigative intern for the Federal Public Defender for the District of Maryland and as a legal intern at The Law Office of LaSheena M. Williams.
Kayla graduated as a Dean’s Merit Scholar from Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law where she served as the primary advocate for incarcerated individuals seeking compassionate release as part of Villanova’s Caritas Clemency Clinic. She pursued her passion for being an advocate for social change as a legal research assistant for the law school’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion department, while also serving as the president of the university’s Black Law Student Association and as a board member for the Criminal Law Society. Kayla also graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A in Criminology and Law and Society.
