MTV Series Produced by Ryan Ferguson to Premiere in August

Unlocking the Truth, a documentary series produced by exoneree Ryan Ferguson, will debut on MTV next month.

The series, conceived by Ferguson while he was incarcerated, will explore three cases in which the defendant may have been wrongfully convicted and documents Ferguson’s efforts to get the cases back into court.

Ferguson and his co-investigator Eva Nagao spent 15 weeks reviewing the cases and filming the series, which will premiere on August 17.

In an interview with the Columbia Daily Tribune, Ferguson’s father Bill said he hopes the series will draw more attention to the issue of wrongful convictions.

“There are so many people that have been innocently put in prison, and most of them don’t have the money, the resources or the support to resurrect them from the prison system,” Bill Ferguson told the Tribune. “Hopefully this will open the eyes of the public that this happens.”

Ryan Ferguson was wrongfully convicted at age 17 for the murder of Kent Heitholt, a Daily Tribune editor. He spent eight years in prison before he was exonerated in 2013.

Hi Ryan,

I am so glad you are doing well, it is so wonderful to see you moving on and making the best out of a horrible experience. If you remember I reminded you to have the faith as you had a great attorney and team that were in action to help!

Best wishes
