Clearing the Name of Her Lost Son

Ruby Session and members of her extended family will be in an Austin courtroom today seeking to clear the name of her son, Timothy Cole, who died of an asthma attack in a Texas prison in 1999 while serving time for a rape he didn’t commit. DNA testing obtained by the Texas Innocence Project proved that another man committed the rape, and attorneys at the project are now seeking to make his case the first posthumous exoneration in Texas history.

USA Today reported yesterday on Cole’s case

, and the family visited the Texas legislature, which is considering a bill to compensate the families of exonerated if they are cleared after their death.

"My son's name I will reclaim, that's what he wants, that's what the family wants," (said Cole’s mother, Ruby Session.) "His greatest desire was to be exonerated and completely vindicated."
